During the last round of negotiations, AVC Faculty Association members made addressing longstanding workload inequities and overloads a priority. Because of your resolve during our strike, our employer agreed to appoint a Task Force, facilitated by an independent arbitrator, to make recommendations regarding reasonable solutions to these problems. The agreement includes interim workload reductions that are intended to put some pressure on UPEI to finally fix the problems they admitted existed more than a decade ago, and to make life easier for affected members in the AVC.
That MOU is available here.
While the start of the Task Force has been delayed by changes in leadership at the AVC, we are pleased to let you know that this important work is now underway. It will be slow, but the Faculty Association is committed to doing our part to find reasonable solutions to these serious issues in the AVC.
The task force is made up of:
Andrea Bourque, Aimie Doyle, and Stephanie Hamilton for the Faculty Association;
Anne Marie Carey, Oliver Falconbridge, and Dominique Griffon for the Employer;
The facilitator, Karen Hollett, is an experienced labour lawyer, arbitrator, mediator, and facilitator based in Nova Scotia. Her remit is to keep the parties engaged in meaningful dialogue, and working towards resolution.
Recently, the FA members of the task force provided a background document to Ms Hollett.
That document is available here.
The first set of meetings are scheduled through April/May/June, and the FA will be providing updates as appropriate throughout. We must also make it clear that nothing will be agreed-to unilaterally: any MOUs or other agreements resulting from this process will be ratified by all AVC members.
