UPEI Faculty Members Ratify New Collective Agreement – Classes to Resume on Monday

After close to four weeks on strike, early Friday morning the UPEI Faculty Association (UPEIFA) and UPEI Board of Governors reached a tentative agreement to end the strike. After having a chance to review details of the tentative agreement, UPEI Faculty Members voted (98%) to ratify the agreement. The Board is scheduled to vote on the agreement later today.

According to UPEI Faculty Association President Michael Arfken, “Over the last four weeks, UPEIFA members have shown their collective strength and determination to make our University a better place to work and learn. It’s been a difficult road, with ups and downs and threats of legislation, but today their effort has been rewarded with a negotiated settlement that satisfies both parties, and begins to address the major concerns that prompted this strike
to begin with. Today is a good day for the FA and for UPEI.”
